The n-queens problem is to determine Q(n), the number of ways place n mutually non-threatening queens on an n×n board. We show that there exists a constant α=1.942±3×10−3 such Q(n)=((1±o(1))ne−α)n. α characterized as solution convex optimization in P([−1/2,1/2]2), space Borel probability measures square. chief innovation introduction limit objects for configurations, which we call queenons. These form set P([−1/2,1/2]2). define entropy function counts configurations approximate given queenon. upper bound uses method Radhakrishnan and Linial–Luria.
